Implementation of Moderate Religious Values in Deep Learning Approaches in Islamic Religious Education Subjects at SMPN 1 Jumo, Temanggung Regency

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of religious moderation values in the application of deep learning strategies within Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMP Negeri 1 Jumo. Core values of religious moderation such as tawasuth (balance), tasamuh (tolerance), and ta’adul (justice) serve as the foundation for developing students’ moral character and their ability to live harmoniously within diversity. The deep learning approach was chosen because it encourages students not only to understand Islamic teachings cognitively but also to internalize them in their daily attitudes and behavior. Through this approach, Islamic Religious Education moves beyond mere knowledge transfer toward nurturing reflective awareness, empathy, and spiritual growth. This research employs a qualitative method with a field study approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the stages of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the values of religious moderation are well integrated into lesson planning, classroom practices, and evaluation processes. PAI teachers play an active role in fostering a dialogical, reflective, and inclusive learning environment, enabling students to contextualize Islamic teachings and appreciate differences. This study concludes that the integration of deep learning with religious moderation principles provides an effective model for strengthening character education and cultivating a generation of moderate and tolerant young Muslims in secondary schools.
